This homage to Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper seeks to address the nature of art itself, while providing a valuable and needed perspective, reflecting on our ongoing cultural dialogues. The premise of the collaborative of twelve area residents from the USA and Latin America is to re-contextualize a body of work interpreting the Last Supper—true to their own vision, medium, political views, social and cultural turmoil, creating a unique dialogue and experience. The disciple who eats the cake gives the opportunity to remember and acknowledge the atrocities that brought Catholicism to our Native Americans from the South of the Patagonia to the North of Alaska—the abuse, oppression, and limitation of resources that the natives suffered in their own land. The video shows a figure representing the two worlds, a juxtaposed classical-tribal character, a tribal soundtrack, and a disturbing mannerism when eating the food, opening a dialogue to a new interpretation to a culturally and socially oppressive last supper.
