PangeaSeed Foundation, in partnership with Nueve Arte Urbano, presents the latest edition of their Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans program; “Water Is One”. “Water Is One,” the first of its kind in the region, is an multicultural public art festival that brings awareness for the protection of the oceans, water and all hydric resources to the streets of Querétaro. The public art initiative aimed to generate awareness and create dialogue exploring creative solutions surrounding the region’s fresh water environmental issues. 20 renowned artists (from Mexico, the U.S.A., France, Canada, Estonia and New Zealand) created a series of large-scale public murals, exploring the aquatic history of the state and highlighting the problems affecting the region’s fresh water resources as well as solutions. Some of the topics addressed by the artists are global warming, plastic pollution, regional social and cultural relationships, resource consumption and management, loss of biodiversity, history and mythology related to water resources in the area. For this special edition of PangeaSeed Foundation’s Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans program, in partnership with Nueve Arte Urbano and Incusa (winners of Mexico’s National Quality Award in 2016), the pioneering public art festival helped to translate these pressing environmental issues and solutions into visual stories that involve the public while inspiring and increasing consciousness of the value and challenges around water resources in Querétaro, Mexico and the world. The one month public art project took place from March-April 2018, at the Educational and Cultural Center of the State of Querétaro (CECEQ) «Manuel Gómez Morín». The festival’s program included painting the outside of the entire «Pendulum» building in CECEQ, totaling over 3000 square meters, as well as various events including panel discussions with artists and organizers, waterway clean ups, youth outreach, educational activities, and collaborative community events.«Public art and activism can educate and inspire the global community to help save our water resources. Regardless of your location – large metropolitan city or small seaside village – all drains lead to the ocean and the ocean supplies us with every second breath we take. Earth cannot exist without healthy oceans and water resources,” said Tre' Packard, founder and executive director of PangeaSeed Foundation. “As ‘ARTivists’ we believe that it’s imperative to use our talent to raise social and environmental awareness in order to inspire positive change and action. We are excited to collaborate with Nueve Arte Urbano to bring our unique message of ocean and water preservation to the Querétaro community.» Packard says. Since its inception in 2014, the Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans program has created over 300 murals in over 12 countries with 200+ artists from 25 different nationalities. This was the first time the program is brought to the central Mexico, highlighting Querétaro’s natural environment.
