Food waste is a critical issue in the United States. On average, Americans throw out more than 40 percent of all the food that is produced in the country. This amounts to 80 billion pounds of food that ends up in the trash each year. This is not only a waste of the food itself, but also a waste of all the resources that were used in producing, handling and discarding this food.New York City, in particular, is extremely wasteful, which is why NYC is home to numerous organizations and individuals trying to fight the problem. Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) is one of the newest non-profit organizations combating the issue of food waste.Written, Produced and Directed by Leah Li.Shot with a Canon EOS Rebel T3i DSLR camera.
