On Friday, May 20, GASD elementary students participated in BioBlitz, focusing on woodlot, ponds, and fields behind Warrior Stadium. The purpose of BioBlitz is to discover and document species. A second purpose of this event was to celebrate the opening of the Harner Education Pavilion. The organizers were: Gettysburg College, PA Dept. of Natural Resources, Gettysburg Foundation, Advancing Science, PA Dept. of Agriculture, South Mountain Audubon Society, Mid-Atlantic Center for Herpetology and Conservation, NPS Inventory and Monitoring Eastern Rivers and Mountains Network, Strawberry Hill Nature Center and Preserve, GASD and Lincoln Elementary School. In addition to these organizations, there were countless hours of preparation by many people in all walks of life to thank for this event. A special thanks to Valerie Stone, Advancing Science at Gettysburg College, and Zach Bolitho of the NPS, both who are also parents of children at Lincoln, for putting together all the details for BioBlitz. Thanks again to everyone for a wonderul event.
