Melting Ice-TX by Jyoti Duwadi, June 5-9, 2014
The El Paso Museum of Art commissioned artist, Jyoti Duwadi, to create a 15,000 pound structure made of ice as part of the exhibition, Vanishing Ice: Alpine and Polar Landscapes in Art 1775-2012 organized by the Whatcom Museum. The artwork withstood 100 degree heat for four days, and was intended to bring awareness to the issue of vanishing natural resources. Through the installation, Mr. Duwadi hoped to explore the “beauty of ice and the dramatic loss of glaciers around the world.” This project was supported in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts. Other support was provided by Reddy Ice and Big Boy Concessions.
