This terrain is extremely harsh — no natural resources of water, extremely hot summer, cold winters… The city was built here during the Soviet time, it main function was to provide a base for uranium ore processing facilities. The heart of Aktau, the source of life — nuclear energy based distiller plant, also producing the electric energy required by the city facilities.Recently opened oil fields gave new push to the city growth. The city is located on the side of Caspian Sea. It is strange, but even in the middle of the summer heat the sea remains very cool — 20-21 Celsius degrees at most.
